University of Arkansas graduate Cole McCallum has been selected as a member of the inaugural class of the Lafayette Fellowship, a nationally competitive program that supports outstanding American students pursuing graduate engineering education in France while strengthening scientific and technological collaboration between the United States and France. McCallum, who graduated in May with bachelor's degrees in mechanical engineering and physics, was one of 30 fellows selected from more than 3,400 applicants nationwide for the program's inaugural cohort.

Eva Stephani Caroline, a doctoral candidate in the university's Public Policy interdisciplinary program, was recently awarded the James H. White Doctoral Fellowship by the Graduate School and International Education.

Springdale native Shae Threlfall graduated in May with a 4.0 in mechanical engineering. This fall, she will start a doctoral program in engineering at the University of Cambridge.

The University of Arkansas Global Campus has chosen 39 students to receive the W.E. Manning Memorial Scholarship in the 2026-27 academic year. The Manning scholarship helps support U of A students studying in online undergraduate and graduate degree programs. Many of these students remain in their communities, work full time and take care of their families while earning a degree.

Bethany Cole, a doctoral candidate with the Graduate Program in English, has received a 2026 James J. Hudson Doctoral Fellowship in the Humanities through the office of the Graduate School and International Education. The Hudson award is given annually to exceptional doctoral students in comparative literature and cultural studies, English, history or philosophy.

Emanuel Ferrari do Nascimento, a U of A master's degree student in crop, soil and environmental sciences, has been named a 2026 Borlaug Scholar by the National Association for Plant Breeding. Nascimento, who is from Brazil, is part of the Arkansas Soybean Breeding program, led by assistant professor Caio Canella Vieira in the Department of Crop, Soil and Environmental Sciences.

The Division of Student Affairs is celebrating two seniors whose leadership has left a lasting mark on campus. Yannick Tchio Tiombo and Anna Morrow were named recipients of the Spring 2026 Henry Woods Student Leadership Award, an annual honor recognizing two graduating seniors demonstrating outstanding records of leadership. Each student received a $1,500 scholarship.

Satchel Flammang, a U of A student with a passion for research and language learning, will head to Europe this fall after earning the Erasmus Mundus Scholarship to pursue graduate studies in biomembrane science. Flammang was one of 21 students selected from an applicant pool of 3,100 global applicants for the MemBioMed Erasmus Mundus master's program, an international graduate program focused on biomembranes and their applications in neuroscience, biochemistry and pharmaceutical sciences.

U of A graduating senior Anna Fielder has been awarded the highly competitive Critical Language Scholarship to study Russian in Kyrgyzstan this summer and Princeton in Asia to Kazakhstan in the 2026-27 academic year.

U of A alumni Sherman Black and Lynnette Reeder Black have announced this year's recipients of the Black and Reeder Scholarship, which is awarded to Greenwood High School students and U of A students from Greenwood seeking degrees in engineering or business. Caden Slate will graduate from Greenwood High School in May and plans to study marketing at the Sam M. Walton College of Business. She will be a first-generation college student. Ben Pschier, a senior in electrical engineering from Greenwood, will also receive the Black and Reeder Scholarship for the 2026-2027 academic year. Pschier said high school experiences with soldering, robotics competitions and coding classes led him to the field.

The Program in Creative Writing and Translation is pleased to announce that Jane Tucker has been awarded the undergraduate Felix Christopher McKean Memorial Award. The award was founded in 1945 to honor the memory of McKean, an Arkansas native of Lockesburg who, while studying foreign languages, business and mathematics at the U of A, discovered a passion for writing poetry.

The Gender Studies Program in the J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences is pleased to announce its second cohort of Maxine Miller Scholars. Named after luminary business owner of Maxine's Tap Room, Maxine Miller, scholars are selected based on the strength and innovation of their research projects, which must examine gender issues in a humanities field.

The University of Arkansas continues its tradition of national recognition for student excellence in public service, leadership and research as juniors Amie Donathan has been named a Goldwater Scholar, Muskan Taori a Truman Scholar and Claire Walker a Udall Scholar. These highly competitive national awards recognize students who demonstrate exceptional commitment to serving others, leading change and discovering solutions to challenging problems.

The U of A continues its rise among the nation's elite institutions for student success, as physics and mathematics major John Samuel Sooter has been named the university's first-ever Churchill Scholar, and alumna Anna Mathis was selected as a finalist for the prestigious Marshall Scholarship. Together, the honors highlight U of A students' growing national and international impact in science, public service and leadership.

Two U of A students have been named finalists for the prestigious Harry S. Truman Scholarship, the nation's premier graduate fellowship for aspiring public service leaders. Jessica Doss, a junior from Little Rock, and Muskan Taori, a junior from Bentonville, were selected as finalists from a competitive national pool of candidates recognized for their academic excellence, leadership experience and commitment to careers in public service. The Truman Scholarship provides up to $30,000 for graduate study, leadership training and special internship and fellowship opportunities within the federal government.

In the past year, the Hughes Fellowship has supported five physics students at the University of Arkansas. Harry O'Mara, Luis Enrique Rosas Hernandaz, Sachini Withanage, Hemanta Pradhan and James Mangum have shared what they have been able to accomplish with the support of the Hughes family in the following testimonials.

Michelle Kamanga, who began her academic career at the University of Arkansas' Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences as an undergraduate (B.A. in art history, '24), is now pursuing her master's degree in art history at the university. She was selected for the Creative Exchange Fund (CXF) at The Medium, which provides funding and free space for creatives and cultural organizers to develop and present their work across five funding categories. Kamanga's project was chosen for the Spectra Series, which supports artists in hosting group exhibitions in The Medium's Main Hall or on its outdoor campus.

In Northwest Arkansas, movement through the natural environment is a part of everyday life. Caitlin Swanson, a U of A student from Salem, Oregon, drew on that sense of connection between people and the landscape for her design of a mental wellness center located along the Razorback Greenway in Fayetteville. Inspired by the region's extensive trail system and biking culture, the project positions access, movement and community as essential elements of healing and design.

More than $5.1 million in scholarships was awarded to 3,768 students in the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Arkansas during the current academic year. These scholarships are made possible with the support of donors, including alumni, faculty, staff and friends of Fulbright College, to aid students across the college's four academic disciplines: arts, humanities, natural sciences and social sciences. "Fulbright College's mission is to provide a transformational education for our students," said Brian E. Raines, dean of Fulbright College. "The generosity of our supporters allows us to do just that. By alleviating financial strain on students, we empower them to focus on their studies and thrive in their academic endeavors."

Six incoming students from across the state of Arkansas joined the distinguished list of Sturgis Fellows this fall in the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences' Honors Program at the University of Arkansas. The Sturgis Fellowship is the oldest of the U of A's prestigious fellowship programs, which awards each fellow $80,000 during their four years to cover tuition, room and board, and other academic expenses directly related to their individual major or research interests.

The Master of Science in Operations Management Program in the College of Engineering announce the recipients of two departmental scholarships for the spring 2026 semester, Julian Mpirirwe and Meerim Seiitova. These awards recognize outstanding graduate students who demonstrate academic excellence, professional promise and a commitment to service.

The Honors College at the University of Arkansas has selected 16 exceptional freshmen for the Path Program, which offers financial support and personalized guidance to students who are first-generation college students, have significant financial need or come from less-served areas of the state. In addition to receiving scholarships, mentorship and academic advising, Path scholars live in Hotz Honors Hall and benefit from academic and study abroad opportunities.

The University of Arkansas Honors College has awarded its inaugural Natural State Fellowship to 12 incoming freshmen from across Arkansas. The prestigious fellowship offers up to $80,000 over a four-year period. This support enables students to pursue original research, study abroad, engage in service learning and other enriching academic experiences.

The University of Arkansas Honors College selected six incoming first-year students from Arkansas as the recipients of this year's Bodenhamer Fellowships, one of the most prestigious scholarships the university offers to undergraduates, awarding each student up to $80,000 over the four-year course of their education.

The University of Arkansas Honors College selected 100 exceptional high school students, including 91 from Arkansas, to receive Honors College Fellowships, which award up to $80,000, largely to cover tuition, fees, books, room and board, and other academic expenses over four years, providing these students the freedom to pursue original research, study abroad, service learning and other academic interests.

Drew Holland, a recent graduate from Greenwood High School, was awarded the Black and Reeder Scholarship and will pursue a degree in biomedical engineering in the College of Engineering at the University of Arkansas. The scholarship is gifted from U of A alumni Sherman Black and Lynnette Reeder Black and is awarded to a Greenwood High School student seeking a degree in engineering or business at the University of Arkansas.

Six graduate students in the Master of Public Administration program at the University of Arkansas have been named recipients of the prestigious Raymond W. Gosack Scholarship for the 2025-26 academic year: Megan Zingerman, Domingo Feliz Carela, Sydney Buffalo, Rachel Britton, Andrew Guegan and Annette Nyoni.

Two fourth-year students in the Fay Jones School of Architecture and Design at the U of A, Cassie Roberts and Olivia Everett, have each been awarded $30,000 from the Angelo Donghia Foundation, the most prestigious scholarship in interior design education. Founded by the late international interior designer Angelo Donghia, the foundation is a non-profit organization that promotes design education.

Graduate students in the Master of Public Administration program at the University of Arkansas have been awarded the prestigious Hugh T. Henry Memorial Scholarship for the 2024-25 academic year: Andrew Guegan, Annette Nyoni and Domingo A. Feliz Carela.

The Department of Geosciences at the University of Arkansas awarded $153,900 in scholarships to students for the 2025-26 academic year. This sum will be awarded to 26 undergraduates and 33 graduate students. Scholarships are provided by 33 endowed scholarships that support geographers, geologists and earth scientists throughout the department.
